Bulldogs extend their winning streak to two matches
The Burbank Bulldogs extended their winning streak to two matches with a 3-0 sweep of the Larchmont Timberwolves (25-11, 25-19, 25-15) in the second match of a home back-to-back.
Burbank entered the contest following a straight-set victory over Immaculate Heart in the first match of the back-to-back.The match was Larchmont’s season opener. The Timberwolves entered the new season after finishing 30-12 overall and 14-0 in Crosstown League play last year. They also appeared in the CIF Los Angeles City Section Girls Volleyball playoffs, falling to University in three sets in the second round.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the opening set as Farryn Hall recorded back-to-back aces to put Burbank ahead 2-0. Larchmont got on the scoreboard when Sam Yosh stepped out of bounds, but the Bulldogs controlled the set. Lana Kang finished it with consecutive aces, giving Burbank a 25-19 victory.
Larchmont opened the second set with a free point after the Bulldogs were called for being out of rotation. Emmerson Chong, Gabby Jarrah and Yosh then helped Burbank respond with four consecutive kills to take a 4-1 lead. Estelle McManus cut the Bulldogs’ advantage to one with back-to-back points for the Timberwolves. Although both teams kept the second set competitive, Kang once again closed it with consecutive aces as Burbank won by the same 25-19 score.
The Timberwolves began the third set with a 4-0 run behind points from Zofia Koladowski, McManus and Ella Seong. Yosh and Jarrah ended the run with back-to-back points, cutting Larchmont’s lead to two. Despite the Timberwolves’ fast start, they could not force a fourth set.
The Bulldogs rallied to win the third set 25-19 and complete the sweep. Burbank improved to 3-2, while Larchmont fell to 0-1. The Bulldogs will next participate in a two-day varsity tournament, with their matchups still to be determined. Larchmont will play its home opener against Mendez in the second match of its own back-to-back.
