In their previous contests, Burroughs came off a 26-9 loss to Monrovia while Temple City came off a 24-12 victory over Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary back on September 16th.

The Bears struck first with the game’s first touchdown as Chloe Zavala found Krrystal Villalta

Burroughs extended their lead to 13 points with Zavala finding Geneva Keifer for a long touchdown strike and then Zavala finding Kayla Duran for the extra point, which was also the only score of the second quarter. Burroughs held on to a 13-point lead at the half over Temple City.

The Rams were held to no points throughout the contest as the Bears increased the lead to 19 points when Jasmine Varela took it to the house for a goal-line touchdown run, which was the only score in the third quarter and in the second half. Both teams played a defensive battle throughout the fourth quarter, with Burroughs preserving the shutout over Temple City.

“I thought we should have executed plays early on, but as soon as Temple City was running a certain defense, we started picking up the pace of the game,” said Keith Knoop. Knoop also said that the offense needs to score at will if they want a chance at the playoffs.

Burroughs improves to 6-5 overall, and 3-4 in Arroyo League play while Temple City falls to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in Arroyo League play. Both teams will return to action on Monday, September 28th, at 6:00 p.m. Burroughs will host Gabrielino at 6:00 p.m., and Temple City will host Monrovia at 5:00 p.m.
