Athlete of the Week: Sophie Rangsiyawong Has Become the Face of Burroughs Softball

The two-time All-Pacific League shortstop looks to lead the Bears to new heights in 2027.

Sophie Rangsiyawong has established herself as one of the Pacific League’s top shortstops while building her own legacy at John Burroughs High School.

Now entering her senior season as a team captain, Rangsiyawong is a two-time All-Pacific League selection, earning second-team honors as a sophomore before receiving first-team recognition as a junior. Last season, she led the Bears with a .438 batting average, a .505 on-base percentage, a .677 slugging percentage, 37 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and eight doubles. Her production at the plate and leadership on the field have made her a cornerstone of the program.

Rangsiyawong joined the varsity team as a freshman, giving her the opportunity to spend one season playing alongside her older sister, Giselle, who left her own mark on Burroughs softball. “I’ve been playing softball my whole life and my family has been around softball since I played alongside my older sister Giselle,” Sophie said. Reflecting on their season together, Sophie said she admired how Giselle handled the challenges and ups and downs of high school softball.

That experience helped shape her approach as she developed into a leader herself. Burroughs coach Doug Nicol recognized Sophie’s potential long before she put on a varsity uniform.

“I remember meeting Sophie coming to games in the past to watch her older sister Giselle and I saw something special in her when she was practicing drills with her dad and since that time Sophie has been the backbone of the team’s success and has created her own legacy on the field,” Nicol said. Nicol also described the opportunity to watch the sisters share the Burroughs infield for one season as fantastic and credited their parents for raising outstanding daughters.

Now, Sophie has one final high school season to add to that family legacy and help the Bears take their next step. Burroughs is scheduled to open its 2027 season at home with Valencia on Thursday, February 11th.
