The longtime Bulldogs head frosh football coach will retire at the conclusion of the 2026 season.

After 47 years of coaching high school football, including 25 years leading Burbank High School’s frosh team, Mark Meredith is preparing to step away from the sidelines.

Meredith’s impact extends well beyond wins and losses. During his quarter-century with the Bulldogs, he guided the frosh program to eight league championships and several undefeated seasons. Over his coaching career, he worked with more than 2,000 players, teaching lessons that carried beyond the football field.

At Burbank, Meredith served under four varsity head coaches: Ted Amorosi, Hector Valencia, Richard Broussard and Adam Coleman. Each gave him the opportunity to bring his own approach to developing the program’s youngest players.“We built the Burbank High School football program and those coaches let me be who i’am and I was proud of the teams I built with them,” Meredith said. Among the championships and memorable seasons, Meredith said his proudest moment was coaching his son, Ryan, in high school football.

For Ali McKain, Meredith’s dedication to teaching and mentoring young athletes will remain a defining part of his legacy. “Coach Meredith has been on our field for 25 years, I will miss seing him teach the life lessons to the young student athletes that love football which is essential to the success on the field,” McKain said. McKain added that Meredith has left a lasting legacy on the Burbank football program.

Former Burbank head coach Hector Valencia also praised Meredith’s influence, particularly his ability to establish expectations and build a winning culture from the moment players entered the program. “Coach Meredith has been an incredible part of the program who sets the tone for the kids and all the student athletes who bought into his culture of winning football,” Valencia said.

Valencia added that a Burbank–Burroughs frosh matchup at Burbank High School provided a fitting finish to Meredith’s career at the freshman level. Meredith’s final appearance on the varsity sidelines will come in the 78th annual Burbank–Burroughs rivalry game, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

After nearly five decades of coaching, Meredith leaves behind a legacy measured in championships, lasting relationships and generations of players who came through his program.
